VETERAN CRAFTSMAN SHOWCASES UNIQUE HANDCRAFTED GOODS AT THE OASIS TWILIGHT MARKETS

Tuesday 26 March 2024

The Oasis Townsville is thrilled to announce that Peter Jones, a Veteran who served in the Australian Army from 1977 to 1989, will be hosting a stall at the upcoming Oasis Twilight Markets on Friday, April 12th, 2024.

Showcasing his unique range of handcrafted leather engraved key tags, frames, and drink coasters, each intricately designed with precision and care using a laser engraving technique.

Mr Jones said, when I initially started, it was simply to create small tokens of appreciation for my family, friends, and colleagues. However, as I delved deeper into my craft, I began to recognise the untapped potential to share my creations with a wider audience and potentially market them.

“I thoroughly enjoy the creative process behind crafting these pieces. It all began with key tags, then progressed to frames, and now onto drink coasters. Who knows what's next? If someone has an idea, I'm more than willing to collaborate and bring it to life,” Mr Jones said.

Mr Jone's journey with The Oasis began when he sought assistance in completing Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) forms for service-related injuries. The dedicated team at The Oasis was able to provide the support and guidance Peter needed, and in a heartfelt gesture of gratitude, he crafted leather key tags adorned with The Oasis symbol and presented them to the team.

Angie Barsby General Manager of The Oasis Townsville said we were delighted when we received Mr Jones’ gifts. Upon seeing the exquisite craftmanship, we immediately suggested he join us at the Twilight Markets.
Mr Jones said, since The Oasis Townsville team asked me to get involved in the markets, I have been hard at work crafting various pieces, including designs featuring military emblems.

The Oasis Twilight Markets will take place on Friday, April 12th, 2024, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm at The Oasis Townsville, located at 1 Staging Camp Avenue, Oonoonba. This event promises to be a vibrant celebration of local talent and community spirit, with a diverse range of stalls and food vendors.
